The Hand-Up Project

At Actions Speak Louder, we believe in meeting spiritual and physical needs. Access to education and business training in Uganda is extremely difficult to come by, especially if you don't have money. We are currently partnered with a local ministry in Iganga to provide scholarships for vocational training to qualifying women. We specifically look for moms who are already doing something to earn income, but have ambitions to start a business. The most common paths are beauty school and tailoring, but there are other options, as well.

Alasati, pictured with her son, was already in school when her original sponsor backed out. When we found out she was selling porridge after school to try and earn school fees, we knew we wanted to help. She is currently studying hairdressing, and her school fees are paid in full. We are still fundraising for the funding she will need to start her business once she graduates.

Amiina (pictured with her children) was selling charcoal to earn income for her family. She received a scholarship to go to school for hairdressing. Our mission partner shared that she cried when she learned she was receiving a full scholarship. We can't wait to see great things from Amiina! We are still fundraising for the funding she will need to start her business once she graduates.
